Terms of Service

TropeScope is a small, solo-built romance book discovery site. These terms describe the deal between you (“you”) and us (“TropeScope,” “we”) when you use tropescope.app. Plain English where possible.

Using the site

You’re welcome to use TropeScope to browse, search, and discover romance books. No payment is required. You don’t need to sign in to browse — signing in with Google just lets you save books and track what you’ve read.

Your account

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us. You’re responsible for keeping your Google account secure. We may suspend or delete accounts that abuse the platform (spam, harassment, scraping, trying to break things).

Content you submit

When you submit tag improvements, votes, or other feedback, you grant us permission to use it to improve TropeScope’s data and recommendations. By submitting, you confirm the content is yours to share and doesn’t infringe anyone else’s rights. We may moderate, edit, or remove submissions at our discretion.

Book data accuracy

Book metadata (titles, authors, tropes, spice levels, covers, descriptions) is gathered from public sources and AI-assisted tagging. We try to keep it accurate, but it can be wrong, incomplete, or out of date. Always check the retailer’s page before buying.

Affiliate links

We use affiliate links to Amazon.co.uk (as an Amazon Associate) and Bookshop.org UK. If you buy through them we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This doesn’t influence which books we feature or how they’re ranked. See the privacy policy for details.

Acceptable use

Please don’t:

• scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the site or its data
• try to break, probe, or overload our infrastructure
• use the site to harass other users or host illegal content
• impersonate other people or claim an affiliation that doesn’t exist
• circumvent our moderation or account-deletion systems

No warranties

TropeScope is provided as-is. We’re a small side project, not a commercial service with uptime guarantees. Things will occasionally break, go offline, or display wrong data. We’re not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site — the kind of loss that exceeds what TropeScope reasonably contemplates.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. We’ll refresh the “Last updated” date at the top. Continuing to use the site after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes go to the courts of England and Wales.
